artist statements
Piece 1:
This is a portrait of Mick Thomson, my favorite guitar player. I started the project by finding my favorite image of him, next I rated the darkness of each area on a scale of 1-5, then I sketched it, finally I shaded it. this piece was done completely in graphite.
Piece 2:
This is a salt shaker from my kitchen. To start, I took a picture on my phone because the lighting kept changing, then I sketched it, rated the shading , and chose my media, finally I shaded it in graphite and it was finished.
Piece 3:
This piece is a watercolor painting I found on google images because I couldn’t find an original idea. To start I found what colors I needed and rated their darkness then I sketched out what I could because doing lines with paint is difficult, then I painted in the lines is difficult, finally I added the paint and touched it up with some water.
Piece 4:
This piece is a portrait of my favorite comedian/ jazz artist/ cartoonist- Seth McFarlane. The media chosen is multimedia, mainly from differently textured papers and very thin cardboard. I started by finding a good portrait worthy picture and sketched it, then I split the portrait into sections which different medias were going to be added. Once it was sketched and split, I shaded the areas I wasn’t adding any odd media into with graphite. That was the fun part for me. Finally I cut up the magazine paper and light cardboard and pasted it in the split sections with thin layers of glue and it was finished.
Piece 5:
This is a magazine clipped portrait of my dog Moxie. To start, I sketched lightly, found magazines with similar colors, and cut every page I could. Finally I pasted the magazine paper and it was finished. There isn’t much to this process, it is just very tedious and time consuming.
Piece 6:
This is a pen and ink style drawing of one of my guitars, an Epiphone Sheraton II. To start I found an image of it on google images because I cant take good pictures with the lighting in my house. Next I sketched the picture lightly with graphite. Then I chose how I would shade it with the pen and ink. I chose to do scribbling with a mixture of hatching and cross hatching. Finally I shaded with the marker and I was finished.
Piece 7:
This is an Alice Neel inspired painting of my favorite UFC fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov. I started the piece by finding my favorite picture of Khabib, then got my paints out, next I painted him according to the image I was replicating. Finally I did the background in water color, I tried to keep a balance of neat and sloppy with this piece. My thoughts on this piece are probably my least favorite piece because of the style I had to work in.
Piece 8:
This piece is a master style painting of Joey Logano’s race car. To start, I found an image of the car, Next I sketched it, then I mixed my colors, after that I started painting. The most emphasis I put in the painting went into the shadows, finally I did stippling with the paint on the background and it was finished. My thoughts on this piece are I love it because of how realistic I made it looks
Piece 9:
This is a pastel drawing of my cat biscuit. He’s a little slow. To start, I found the most detailed picture of the cat and sketched it, then I went and drew over it with pastel, finally I blended the colors and touched up on the emphasized areas. My thoughts on this piece are it looks too much like a cartoon, I prefer more realistic things
Piece 10:
This piece is a monster energy can in a snowy background. The monster is wearing a santa hat to celebrate Christmas there are many odd shapes and figures from the can’s design. the color scheme is mostly red white and blue/ ‘MURICA the media chosen is markers and color pencils.
To start, I went to the local gas station to get my caffeinated beverage which im addicted to. Next I set it on the table and began drawing it live. Next I filled in all of the color with color pencils and markers.
The big idea behind it is to make my favorite drink in the world and make it festivized. There is no motivation that the caffeine doesn’t already provide.
My goal for this assignment was to just get it done to the best of my ability
My thoughts on this piece are “im definitely framing this”
Piece 11:
This piece is titled GuITar , it is not an original idea, it looks like a guitar, just very realistic for the media I chose. Some elements and principles here are texture of the wood, color, form, shape, and shade, rythm, and variety. The media chosen was color pencils.
To start a found a picture of the best looking guitars in my opinion, and did it in a different prospective. Next, I rated the shade and color and matched them according to the prospective. I then went to town on the piece with the color pencils, this was aggravating because it didn't look like it was looking good until I added darker colors. finally, I put a background getting dark and getting lighter as it got further away.
The big idea was to get a weird prospective of a guitar and keep it as realistic as possible. I definitely accomplished that.
My goals was to just get it done and make it look good, mission accomplished.
My thoughts on this project are "I hope this gets chosen to be put in an art show." and "My skills are too good." I'm definitely framing this piece
Piece 12:
This peice is titled "james". It's an original idea, a sketch of James Hetfeild in the style of a justin bua peice. the media i chose was graphite. all of the elements and principles are applied except for color. there is no color.
To start, i grabbed my bobble head of james hetfield and sketched it, next i shaded according to the lighting, finally i found a background on google and touched up on the shading.
The big idea was to make it look exaggerated, mission accomplished.
My goal was to get it done and make it look good. There is no other goal in my art.
My thoughts on this piece are "yay Im done".
Piece 13:
This piece is titled "I See Honey Bun" based on the meme honey bun baby. It's a cartoon sketch of the meme hone bun baby. the media chosen is graphite because it's easiest to work with. the elements and principles i emphasized most are perspective and contrast,
To start, i found a funny meme of the baby. Next i replicated it to realistic standards and exaggerated the features, finally i shaded it. while doing all of this, i was replicating the artist's style.
the big idea was to make it funny. so i went for a big headed baby smiling
my goal, like the last project was to just get it done and have a good grade on it.
my thoughts and feelings are the process felt like busy work and i wasn't learning anything.
